Looking For Story contributions [Nov. 9th, 2009|11:30 pm]
GBLT Boston
I apologize if this is not allowed here.

I have published a couple of books and my current one is going to be potentially called "Coming Out" or "Knocking the Closet Door Down". It is going to be made up of various people's coming out stories. Whether gay, lesbian, trans, poly, kinky or even funny ones like Republican (kidding!)

So I need stories. If you are interested in being in the book please email me your story to shampoo150@gmail.com and out "coming out story"

also let me know here if you're interested so I can look for you email.

So sorry, I copy and pasted only half of what I wanted to say. First off, here is a link to my current books. http://stores.lulu.com/shampoo150. I don't want to hear, "self publishing isn't real publishing", there are mixed feelings and I consider it legit because there is an ISBN number and I know plenty of sucsessful authors who self-publish.

Second, regretably because I fund this, I can't give you compensation and so I hope people will contribute for the sheer joy of having their story published. HOWEVER, in order to get the book at it's lowest price I opt to set my revenue to $0.00 so therefore I do not get anything either.

TranScriptions: featuring Otter! (x-posted) [Jul. 3rd, 2009|08:43 pm]
GBLT Boston

featuring: Otter Eliconia

Thursday, July 9; doors @ 7:15pm
at Spontaneous Celebrations, 45 Danforth St, JP
$5-10 donation, cash only please!

It's finally summer, and TranScriptions, Boston's monthly queer/trans open mic, is heating things up things up. Don't miss this month's feature, TranScriptions regular Otter Eliconia!

Otter reads hot consent-based porn to illustrate zan vision of healthier sex. Ze considers zan work direct action against dominating heteropatriarchal ideas about sexxx. Ze also speaks incendiary poetry and sappy love songs. Ze learned to be a vulgar loudmouth when ze was raised by a pack of wild sisters south of (A)tlanta, and ze hopes to be everything zan sisters taught zan. Other loudmouths should feel liberated to respond and participate vocally during zan performance.

TranScriptions is every 2nd Thursday and features a special guest performer each month. This space is for queer folks, trans people, genderqueers, lesbians, gay guys, dykes, bisexuals, butches, femmes, bears, crossdressers, pansexuals, poly people, drag kings 'n' queens, ftm's, mtf's, allies and YOU! Read a poem, play a song, spit a rhyme, bust a move, tell a joke, or just take it all in.

Tell Obama and Holder: Stop defending DOMA. [Jun. 16th, 2009|06:02 pm]
GBLT Boston

Dear Friend,

They compared same-sex marriage to a marriage between an uncle and a niece. Or between
two children. No, we're not talking about Rick Santorum. We're talking about the Obama
administration's Justice Department. The brief the DOJ presented defending the Defense of
Marriage Act (DOMA) in federal court was not just wrong. It was offensive. The New York
Times called it "disturbing" in its lead editorial.

Back in the days of the 2008 campaign, Senator Obama promised he would work to overturn
the Defense of Marriage Act. But now that a gay couple in California is challenging DOMA
in federal court, President Obama has chosen to take action to defend a law that prevents
legally married same-sex couples from receiving any federal benefits, or from having
their marriages recognized in other states.

I just signed a petition to tell President Obama and Attorney General Holder to withdraw
this offensive brief and apologize for its contents. (The website also has a great video
of Rachel Maddow and Howard Dean discussing the importance of this issue!) Please have a
look and take action.

Boston on the Cheap? [Jun. 4th, 2009|10:27 pm]
GBLT Boston

A friend and I are looking to spend 7-14 days in Boston this July for some things going on around the Colonial Theater but we're looking to do it as inexpensively as possible, while still being safe for 2 females.

We've never been to this city and will try to find side jobs to help cover the costs, but we're also looking for tips from those who have Boston experience! Everything from where to find affordable housing (we're willing to use sleeping bags or share a bed or whatnot) to cheap food to whatever else you care to share! Tips/Tricks/Thoughts?

Thanks so much!

edit: we're interested in anything and everything, so all suggestions are welcome, however info in terms of things close to the Colonial Theater and affordable accommodations are especially fabulous!
